U.S. Manufacturing Remains ABB’s Largest Market
The initiative reflects ABB’s wider U.S. manufacturing strategy, with the company investing approximately $500 million in American manufacturing and research and development between 2022 and 2024 to meet rising demand for electrification and automation technologies.
The United States is ABB’s largest market, generating approximately $10 billion in revenue in 2025—nearly 29% of the company’s global total.
Through its Engineered for America campaign, ABB is highlighting how local manufacturing investment supports customer demand for technologies designed to improve efficiency, productivity, and sustainability across industrial operations.
The campaign will focus throughout 2026 on innovation, sustainability, community impact, and employee empowerment across its U.S. sites.

New Berlin Campus Anchors ABB’s U.S. Manufacturing Strategy
The centre of the campaign is ABB’s New Berlin, Wisconsin campus, which combines manufacturing, engineering, customer experience, and service operations under one roof.
Tuomo Hoysniemi, President of Division Drive Products at ABB, said: “The New Berlin site is more than a manufacturing facility—it’s a showcase of what’s possible when innovation, sustainability, and customer-centric design come together under one roof.”
“It integrates manufacturing, engineering, customer experience and service capabilities, creating a collaborative environment where ABB teams and customers work side-by-side to solve real-world challenges.”

Variable Frequency Drive Production Supports Critical Infrastructure
The facility manufactures variable frequency drives (VFDs) and controls used for precise motor control across industrial and commercial applications.
These products support critical infrastructure including data centres, hospitals, buildings, utilities, and industrial operations, helping customers improve both energy efficiency and operational performance.
The site has been operational since 1988 and produces the majority of ABB drives installed across North America.
Local-for-Local Manufacturing Supports U.S. Supply Chains
The New Berlin investment also strengthens ABB’s local-for-local manufacturing strategy, including localization of production to meet Build America, Buy America (BABAA) requirements.
This approach helps reduce supply chain complexity while supporting domestic sourcing and faster delivery for North American customers.
It also houses the Drives Service Workshop, where drives undergo repair and preventive maintenance using genuine ABB parts and testing to ensure reliability and safety.

Sustainability Features Support Mission to Zero Operations
The New Berlin site has been designed as a Mission to Zero facility, showcasing ABB’s focus on lower-emission manufacturing and energy-efficient operations.
Sustainability features include rooftop solar panels, LED lighting, energy-efficient building design, and digital energy monitoring and management systems.
The campus also serves as a demonstration site where sustainability practices and operational learnings can be shared across ABB’s global network and with customers pursuing their own environmental targets.

Workforce Development Supports More Than 700 Jobs
The facility supports more than 700 high-skill jobs across advanced manufacturing, engineering, operations, sustainability, and customer support.
Hoysniemi said: “We have been highly successful in attracting, retaining and empowering our employees.”
“This facility exemplifies ABB’s growing reputation as an Employer of Choice in the region.”
ABB also works with local schools, technical colleges, universities, and community organizations including the Boys & Girls Club to support STEM education, internships, and workforce development pipelines.
